Today's Fab Tip:
Curled lashes open up your eyes and add drama. They're a fantastic way to make you look more awake by day and more sultry by night. Here's how to get them:
"For wicked curves, clamp down your eyelash curler for a count of 20, then immediately apply mascara to lock in the shape."
-- Makeup Artist Scott Barnes in Cosmopolitan magazine, April 2010, page 75.
Simple. Just repeat on the other eye, and bam, instant bombshell lashes.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: DIY Tinted Sunscreen
Today's Fab Tip:
It's starting to get warmer, which means spending more time outside, yay fun! But that also means needing to wear a higher SPF and reapplying sunscreen more frequently (not as fun). Here's a tip by makeup artist Carmindy, formerly of What Not To Wear, from the archives to keep your sunscreen from whitening your skin a little too much:
"Tint your SPF: It can sometimes look too white on skin. To nix the Casper cast, mix in a drop of foundation before applying."
-- Carmindy in Cosmopolitan magazine, April 2010, page 75.
There you are: a DIY way to give your face protection and minimal coverage without adding too many layers. Perfect for these days when the humidity is rising. Replace the foundation with BB cream for added moisture and benefits.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Grunge Lower Lashes
Today's Fab Tip:
Going along with the grunge inspiration from earlier, here's another fab tip from the Charlie XCX beauty shoot from March Cosmo:
"Channel your inner Kate Moss (after a long, rowdy night with Johnny Depp) by rocking liner that's deliberately smudged below your lower lash line. Easier than pulling a bender: Use a soft pencil... to rim inner eyes, then sweep a smudge brush dipped in charcoal shadow back and forth at your lash lines for a worn-in effect."
-- Taken from Cosmopolitan magazine, March 2015, page 164.
Applying a cream or kajal pencil to your waterline might be easier for a beginner, and if it isn't smudgy enough, use a q-tip to really give it that lived-in look. Don't forget to apply mascara on your lower lashes as well to really emphasis the liner and make the look pop! Honestly, this is one of my everyday makeup looks.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: '90s Brown Makeup
Today's Fab Tip:
"Think of brown makeup as the Taylor Swift of the '90s-- it was everywhere. Now, it's back in a far more face-flattering way. For the monochromatic look, concentrate matte bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks, then use the same powder in the crease of your eyelids. Top lips with a creamy lipstick in a matching tone[.]"
-- Taken from Cosmopolitan magazine, March 2015, page 165.
Using the same color on your eyes, lips, and cheeks (think NARS Multiple style) gives you an instantly pulled together look. Plus it's a lot easier and quicker than using a ton of different products. Great for a '90s throwback kind of day while still being very right now. Have fun with it!

Fabulous Tip of The Day: Tuxedo Jackets
Today's Fab Tip:
"Tuxedo blazers are the must-have new cover-up -- they show off your shape and add a luxe feel to even your most worn-in pair of skinnies. Leave your hair loose or in a messy pony to feminize the look."
-- Taken from Cosmopolitan magazine, December 2011, page 44.
Tuxedo jackets are still in and are a great way to try the menswear look without fully committing to it. It's also a great way to add another layer in this freezing cold weather. Just make sure to add a few feminine details to keep it chic.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Dress Up A Graphic Tee
Today's Fab Tip:
"Take a laid-back T-shirt from slouchy to sexy by topping it with a tailored metallic jacket."
-- Taken from Cosmpolitan magazine, September 2013, page 90.
Considering t-shirts, especially graphic t-shirts emblazoned with nerdy references like Dr. Whooves, are one of my biggest wardrobe staples, this is an excellent way for me to step up my look effortlessly.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Cerise Cheeks and Lips
Today's Fab Tip:
"Dab a cerise-colored gel blush onto cheeks, then coat lips with a matching crayon. Complementary pops of color look pulled together and brighten your face instantly."
-- Taken from Cosmopolitan magazine September 2013, page 132.
Add some black eyeliner and mascara, and you've got yourself a simple but polished look.

Aurora's Weekly Favorites: Om Shanti Avengers
Hey, everyone! Some people call Sunday the beginning of the week while others consider it the very end. For the purposes of the Gossip Ghoul Blog, I'm considering Sunday the end with a recap of some weekly favorites. Not all of these are from this week or were put online this week, of course. These are just things that I've been loving this past week and want to share so that you can enjoy as well.
First off, I found this little gem from the San Diego Comic Con on Fashionably Geek. It's from the masquerade featuring a group of cosplayers performing Om Shanti Avengers. Yes, it is an Avengers and Bollywood crossover. The costumes are hilarious, and the dancing is very Bollywood-esque. It made me laugh a lot. Here is the video from the masquerade:
And here is a clip from the Bollywood film Om Shanti Om. It's an especially awesome movie if you understand even some of the self-referential insider jokes about the industry. Either way, watch, and your heart too may be filled with the pain of disco.
Yeah, not going to lie, but I love Bollywood and find that highly enjoyable.
Speaking of music, my song of the week has been Girls, Girls, Girls by Motley Crue. It's been in my head all week, and now it can be in yours.
My nail polish of the week has been Noho by Nails Inc. from the leather effect line, with China Glaze's Stone Cold from the Hunger Games collection as the accent nails.
Aditionally, I plan to spotlight a great beauty tutorial from YouTube every week. Inspiration for different looks can come from anywhere. Today's video is the geekily fantastic Daenerys of Game of Thrones look by Michelle Phan.
Of course, there's more to life than makeup, as demonstrated in this list of five lessons about life learned from Cosmopolitan magazine. I've often been criticized for my love of Cosmo. Just yesterday at the bus stop a woman felt the need to rant at me about how the women in those pages aren't real because they're wearing makeup and have had their hair done professionally and how that's horrible for people to see because they can never look like that. Yes, I will never look as amazing as celebrities in glamorous red carpet photos, but there's so much more to Cosmo than that, and the list in this link really summarizes it well.
I hope you enjoyed the little things that have made me smile this week, and I hope we all have an enjoyable week ahead of us. Fingers crossed.
