Fabulous Tip of the Day: Keep Bangs In Place

Today's Fab Tip:

If there's one thing I know about my hair, it's that bangs can really get in the way. Here's a way to hold them in place and keep them cooperating.

"Hold sideswept bangs in place with lash glue. Sounds strange, but it actually works really well! Dab a clear formula on your forehead and swoop fringe on top to keep it perfectly sideswept, says blogger Stephanie Brinkerhoff."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 154.

Definitely a great way to keep your bangs from getting in your eyes and caught on your mascara. I hate it when they do that.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Natural Looking Waves

Today's Fab Tip:

Waves are an easy and laid-back while still sophisticated hairstyle. Here's a great tip for natural-looking waves:

"Alternate curling directions for easy waves. Wrap the middle of a two-inch section of hair around a curling iron one way for five seconds. Then wrap the ends the opposite way. It makes waves look natural, says Suave Professional celeb stylist Marcus Francis."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 155.

Enjoy your beautiful hair!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Fork Your Hair

Today's Fab Tip:

This is one of those OMG can this be real? kind of tips, but yeah, it's something that will definitely work in a pinch to give your hair some body.

"Create volume with a fork. Need a little lift and don't have a comb? Tease your crown with the plastic fork from your takeout order, says Polly Blitz, founder of BeautyBlitz.com."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 155.

Just, you know, use a clean fork, and not one you've eaten off of. Just saying.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: DIY Scalp Treatment

Today's Fab Tip:

This is a great DIY hair rinse when you have lots of product buildup preventing your hair's natural shine from showing. Just wash your hair as normal and then do the following:

"Add shine with club soda. Pour it on the scalp and let it drip to the ends right after you wash, says celeb stylist Ryan Nickulas. The bubbles remove the product buildup that dulls strands."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 155.

Like I said, simple and a great substitute when you don't have a clarifying shampoo available. Enjoy your shiny locks!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: All Day Bedhead Waves

Today's Fab Tip:

An easy hairstyle I love is bedhead waves. It's simple. You just wash your hair before bed and, when it's mostly dry, braid it, and then sleep in the braids. A little salt spray can give it a piecey texture. Unbraid the next morning, and instant waves. Easy and fabulous. The problem is that the waves don't always last all day. The weight of my super long down to my knees hair causes the waves to straighten themselves out after a while. That's why I'm very happy to have found this little tip.

"If your waves fall quickly, finish with a texturizing spray instead of hairspray-- it'll lock in bends."
--Taken from Seventeen magazine, May 2015, page 52.

Not Your Mother's Double Take, L'Oreal's TXT It, and Garnier Fructis's De-Constructed (the last of which is the one I use) are all great finishing texture sprays you can use. Try it out with volumizing mascara and a little gloss for a sexy but very wearable everyday look.

Stay fabulous!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: The Wet Hair Look

Today's Fab Tip:

To get the wet hair look:

"A light-hold mousse tames unruly flyaways and frizz -- and encourages your hair's natural bend. Apply from root to tips on damp hair, and off you go."
-- Taken from Life & Style magazine, March 23, 2015, p. 55.

This is an easy and fast method of getting the wet hair look. Just slick it back while it's damp and then add a little shine serum. Once it dries, you'll have body, and if you have waves or curls, natural texture that will look effortless. Plus it means less time getting ready in the morning and more time to sleep in.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Make Your Braids Stay All Day

Today's Fab Tip:

Braids work better on second day hair or hair with texture. Personally, I can't stand skipping a wash more than one day every other week because of how oily my face and scalp are (and blonde hair is the WORST when it comes to picking up oil and grime and looking disgusting), but braiding freshly-washed hair is difficult because the smooth strands slip right out. Luckily, there are styling products to help out. Dry shampoo and texturizing spray are great options. I also picked up this tip:

"Give grip to slippery strands by adding styling paste to your fingers before you start, says David Babaii, partner of Blo Blow Dry Bar."
-- Taken from People Style Watch March 2015, p. 180.

This kind of blew my mind. Styling paste can really weigh your hair down and make it look greasy, but applying a little to your fingers instead of directly to the hair? Genius! This will give your braids the grip they need to keep them from falling apart throughout the day. Add a drop of hair oil or shine serum, and spritz with hairspray, and you're good to go.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Basic Hair Hacks

Today's Fab Tip is in video format!

Instead of a quote from a book or magazine, I decided to post a brief video I found of easy hairstyling hacks. Let me say from personal experience that these are very handy, especially the one about storing hair pins in an empty tic tac container, which is very useful for stashing in your purse and easier to deal with than a ziploc. I recommend always having a few bobby pins or hair pins, ponytail holders, mini brush or comb, a travel hairspray, and a travel dry shampoo in a small clutch within your purse for hair touch-ups. My hair always decides to stop cooperating around midday and needs messed with. These hair tips can help.

Btw, the link for the instructions (since it says "Instructions below") is here.
Have fun with your fabulous hair, ladies!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Bobby Pins Matched To Your Hair

Today's Fab Tip:

"[H]old back loose stands in a chic way with a pin that complements your hair color!"
-- Taken from People Style Watch magazine, October 2013, page 204.

This is a great way of making a loose, messy bun look just that much more fabulous, and it keeps your hair out of your face. Using brightly colored bobby pins is fun, but matching the pins to your hair color keeps your hairstyle more sophisticated.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Fast Updo

Today's Fab Tip:

"Quickie Topknot: Even wet hair can get mega likes! Just gather damp hair and twist it into a bun. Then blow-dry hair along the hairline (it keeps you from looking undone) and apply shine serum to smooth."
-- Taken from Seventeen magazine, October 2013, page 56.

This is a hairstyle for those days when you wake up late and need to hurry to look fabulous. Which is practically every day for me.

Fabulous Tip of the Side: Switch Up Your Part To The Side

Today's Fab Tip:

"Deep Side Parts: Switching up your part is the quickest way to freshen up your do! For an of-the-moment vibe, divide hair directly above the arch of your brow."
-- Taken from People Style Watch magazine, September 2013, page 258.

If you part your hair like this on a different side than usual, it will also give your hair more volume for extra fabulousness.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Easy Bombshell Hair

Today's Fab Tip:

"Before blow-drying, spritz in a root-lifting spray for extra oomph."
-- Taken from Glamour magazine, September 2013, page 217.

This is a quick and easy way to get fabulous hair no matter which way you style it. You can use it with or without volumizing mousse.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Textured Ponytail

Today's Fab Tip:

"Make second-day hair work in a cool pony by spritzing with dry shampoo and lightly teasing all over. Leave some pieces free (so it's not perfect!), and put hair in a semi-low pony."
-- Taken from Seventeen September 2013, page 112.

I would recommend a dry shampoo with some volumizing properties, like Tresemme's, and of course lightly mist hairspray so that the pony stays artfully messy all day.
