Today's Fab Tip:
Here's an interesting tip for when you're running low on primer or have misplaced it.
"Use milk of magnesia as a primer. Smooth on a thin layer to control shine, says Gilbert Soliz, Marc Jacobs Beauty makeup artist."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 151.
Has anyone tried this? This one I have not because I always have primer on hand? Does anyone know if this actually works? I'm intrigued.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Revive Your Mascara
Today's Fab Tip:
Here's a great tip to use when you're going out on a Saturday night.
"Take your lashes from day to night. Hitting happy hour? Don't add more mascara to what's already there-- it will make lashes clumpy. Thin out your daytime coat first by brushing through lashes with a spoolie dipped in oil-free makeup remover, says [makeup artist Ashunta] Sheriff. Or use a mascara-softening serum (like [Urban Decay's]-- it has the same effect."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 151.
Clumpy lashes with dried bits of mascara flaking off into your eyes while you're drinking is annoying. Avoid that when you can with this great tip.
Have a fabulous Saturday!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Nude Eyeliner
Today's Fab Tip:
This is a great tip to make your eyes look more awake.
"Wake up sleepy eyes with a nude pencil. So you were up late-- no one needs to know you're running on fumes. For a wide-awake appearance, lighten your eyes' inner lower rims with a beige liner. Just stick to the area below the iris for a more natural look, says Chanel celeb makeup artist Kate Lee."
-- Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 151.
The one I use is Em Michelle Phan's Waterliner, since it's so easy to apply on the waterline. Even if you're not sleepy, this is a good way to make your eyes look bigger. With an extra coat of mascara fanning out the outer corners of your upper and lower lashes, it'll make your eyes doll-like and stand out.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Keep Bangs In Place
Today's Fab Tip:
If there's one thing I know about my hair, it's that bangs can really get in the way. Here's a way to hold them in place and keep them cooperating.
"Hold sideswept bangs in place with lash glue. Sounds strange, but it actually works really well! Dab a clear formula on your forehead and swoop fringe on top to keep it perfectly sideswept, says blogger Stephanie Brinkerhoff."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 154.
Definitely a great way to keep your bangs from getting in your eyes and caught on your mascara. I hate it when they do that.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Natural Looking Blush
Today's Fab Tip:
Blush can be difficult to do sometimes. A little too much, and you can start to look like a clown or like you're really incredibly embarrassed. Using two shades for blush can make it look much more natural.
"Mimic a natural flush. Swirl peach blush on cheekbones, then add pink to the apples. The diffused combo is so sweet, says celeb makeup artist Kristofer Buckle."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 151.
This is great paired with neutral eyes and lips for a no-makeup look.

Waves are an easy and laid-back while still sophisticated hairstyle. Here's a great tip for natural-looking waves:
"Alternate curling directions for easy waves. Wrap the middle of a two-inch section of hair around a curling iron one way for five seconds. Then wrap the ends the opposite way. It makes waves look natural, says Suave Professional celeb stylist Marcus Francis."

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Fork Your Hair
Today's Fab Tip:
This is one of those OMG can this be real? kind of tips, but yeah, it's something that will definitely work in a pinch to give your hair some body.
"Create volume with a fork. Need a little lift and don't have a comb? Tease your crown with the plastic fork from your takeout order, says Polly Blitz, founder of BeautyBlitz.com."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 155.
Just, you know, use a clean fork, and not one you've eaten off of. Just saying.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Eyebrow Definition
Today's Fab Tip:
Everywhere I look, bold eyebrows are still a very big trend, and why not? It's less maintenance involved, and it really helps to bring out your eyes. Here's a tip to get defined but very natural looking brows:
"Define brows with two shades-- a light and a dark. Use the lighter one to fill in any holes near the front of your brow and the darker to define the arch and tail. The front of your brow typically has more hairs, so a deeper shade there will look too heavy[.]"

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Testing Lipstick Shades
Today's Fab Tip:
Sometimes it's difficult to tell from the tube or a picture if a lipstick color will actually work on you. Just because it looks fabulous on a professionally photographed model doesn't mean it will suit you when you apply it using the dim light over your bathroom mirror. Here's an easy trick to test out lipstick colors before dropping the cash -- and without the risk of germs from applying a tester to your mouth.
"Test lipsticks on fingertips. The color and texture of the skin on your fingertips if closer to your lips than the back of your hands, says celeb makeup artist Moani Lee."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 153.
Very useful, especially when trying to decide on an expensive shade. Saving money is definitely fabulous!

Fabulous Tip of the Day: DIY Scalp Treatment
Today's Fab Tip:
This is a great DIY hair rinse when you have lots of product buildup preventing your hair's natural shine from showing. Just wash your hair as normal and then do the following:
"Add shine with club soda. Pour it on the scalp and let it drip to the ends right after you wash, says celeb stylist Ryan Nickulas. The bubbles remove the product buildup that dulls strands."
--Taken from People Style Watch magazine, May 2015, page 155.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Mixed Textures
Today's Fab Tip:
"Mix finishes for a stunning look. Layering textures makes your outfit more interesting, and the same goes for your makeup. Pair matte lips with glossy lids-- it's so modern, says Sarah Lucero, global artistic director for Stila Cosmetics."
--Taken from People Style Watch, May 2015, page 150.
Usually I do matte eyes with shimmery lips, so mixing it up like this is a nice change. Put something metallic or glittery on your eyes, and with a matte lip, your eyes will pop even more.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Make Your Braids Stay All Day
Today's Fab Tip:
Braids work better on second day hair or hair with texture. Personally, I can't stand skipping a wash more than one day every other week because of how oily my face and scalp are (and blonde hair is the WORST when it comes to picking up oil and grime and looking disgusting), but braiding freshly-washed hair is difficult because the smooth strands slip right out. Luckily, there are styling products to help out. Dry shampoo and texturizing spray are great options. I also picked up this tip:
"Give grip to slippery strands by adding styling paste to your fingers before you start, says David Babaii, partner of Blo Blow Dry Bar."
-- Taken from People Style Watch March 2015, p. 180.
This kind of blew my mind. Styling paste can really weigh your hair down and make it look greasy, but applying a little to your fingers instead of directly to the hair? Genius! This will give your braids the grip they need to keep them from falling apart throughout the day. Add a drop of hair oil or shine serum, and spritz with hairspray, and you're good to go.

Fabulous Tip of the Day: Nude Mani Hack
Today's Fab Tip:
A nude manicure is an instant way to polish your look and make it sophisticated and modern. It's also great for balance: if your outfit is mainly bold colors and prints, your nails (as an accessory) stay neutral to keep from being over the top. This particular tip, from New York Fashion Week Spring 2015, is a new take on the nude mani.
"Use ridge filler as polish. As seen at Alexander Wang[,] Essie celeb manicurist Michelle Saunders layered a coat of ridge filler over neutral polish. It acts like an Instagram filter, adding extra brightness to your mani."
-- Taken from People Style Watch March 2015, p. 150.
Additionally, using the ridge filler over your polish means you can skip top coat, which means your mani is done faster, so this works well for a last minute touching up your nails thing in the morning before work.
Stay fabulous, readers.

Today's Fab Tip:
"[H]old back loose stands in a chic way with a pin that complements your hair color!"
-- Taken from People Style Watch magazine, October 2013, page 204.
